Denver
Orchid Society Spring Show and Sale 2010
Location: Tagawa
Garden Center
7711 South Parker Road,
Centennial, CO
(1 mile south of Arapahoe
Road)
The
Theme of this year's Spring Show and Sale is "Orchid Oasis."
Since
the Denver Botanic Gardens is still under construction, we will again be
holding our Spring Show and Sale at Tagawa Garden Center. Tagawa’s is
generously providing prime space in their greenhouses so we’ll have more room
than ever, a lot of natural light, no gate fee to get in and plenty of
parking. Come and join the fun. The more volunteers the merrier the
event!
The
spring show differs from the fall show because it is our most important fund
raiser of the year. The Denver Orchid Society is the only seller at this show
selling the plants supplied by our local vendor, Fantasy Orchids.
Fantasy
has just returned from a buying trip in Hawaii and is excited to show off their
larger variety of plants and price points for collectors as well as the novice
grower. They literally handpicked these plants for our show and sale. A big
thank you to Fantasy!
On
Friday, members will be bringing in plants and accessories to create their own
stunning displays. Others will be setting up sales tables while getting first
pick of incoming sales plants. BONUS! With the theme of "Orchid
Oasis" put on your creativity caps and wow us all with a gorgeous display.
We have space for full eight foot table displays to as small as 5 or less
plants. Floor displays are also welcome. For tips on how to exhibit your
orchids to their best advantage, go to our club website at
www.DenverOrchidSociety.org and click on Orchid Events for the Do's and Don'ts
of exhibiting as well as what to pack into your show kit.
Starting
at 9 a.m. volunteers will be preparing the area for exhibitors. 10 a.m. is when
exhibitors can begin setting up. There will be carts and helpers available to
make move in easier. We know it's
tricky to determine ahead of time if you're going to have plants blooming for
an exhibit. But if you suddenly find
yourself with plants to show and haven't arranged for an exhibit space, please
do so as soon as you can so we can plan table space for everyone. Another
option is simply bringing just your plants to be strategically placed in the
DOS exhibit. The plants our members share are what build our society exhibit.
We just ask that you register your plant for judging before it is brought to
the exhibit, and we will have people to help you with registration.
We
are still looking for a single person or a group to head up the planning and
setup of the society exhibit. This is an exciting position to share your
creativity and help out the society tremendously.
We'd
like to thank everyone who has already signed up to help. Volunteers are the
life blood for all society events and this is no exception.
No
experience is required for any of the jobs and we still need quite a few people
on Saturday and Sunday to help sell the plants, wrap them, bag them and take
money. There will be signup sheets at the February meeting and I'm sure you'll
find just the right activity to sign up for.
If
any of the above sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, or you have
any questions please contact me, Janine Ballentine at 303-356-6008, or ballentinesday@msn.com
or you can sign up at the February meeting.
This is a great way to get to know other orchid society members better
and get the most out of your society membership.
Looking
forward to hearing from you soon!
