Our latest meeting

One of the most rewarding parts of being a member of the Denver Orchid Society is attending monthly meetings. Meetings are our chance to ask questions, learn about different species of orchids and their care, and just be together and share our love for these beautiful plants.

Here’s how a meeting typically goes: from 6:30 to 7 pm, there’s time to talk to other members, get questions answered, and get ready for the monthly presentation. The meeting officially starts at 7 pm and Keith (our president) gives updates and welcomes guests and new members. We absolutely love meeting new orchid lovers and attending a meeting is such a great way to network. Next, we have our monthly presentation. This can either be a guest speaker with specific knowledge (for example, we just had Bill Thoms speak all about Bulbophyllums and their care) or a DOS member sharing about a certain topic (recently we had three members share about their grow environments and how this affects their care). After this concludes, we usually end our meeting with show and tell. Members are encouraged to bring plants in bloom that they’re especially proud of and want to share with others. It’s so fun to see what everyone is growing! Finally, we have what we call an “opportunity table” several times a year where you can buy tickets and potentially win some awesome orchids.

For me, meetings are a time to connect with other members, get questions answered, and learn a whole lot. We hope you’ll join us at our next meeting.
