Orchids are not difficult to grow, but you don’t grow them like most
houseplants. A free guide is available illustrating orchid requirements
regarding potting medium, temperature, fertilizing, air movement, watering, and
more. To get your free guide click on the following link to tell us where to

The March meeting of the Denver Orchid Society will be March 11th at 7 pm. Zoom attendance will also be available for those who want to watch from home.
Taylor will be speaking on growing orchids in an orchidarium.
Here’s what Taylor says about it:
I got into orchids in 2020 while doing research on other plants and came across some pictures of some miniatures. Some time passed and I revisited the idea of having orchids when I was a Nursery Manager in 2022. It was one of my jobs to beautify the place and decorate with plants. My first addition was a 7’ and 400 LB Paludarium. Upon researching the best plants for such a creation, I crossed orchids once more. I then became excited about the idea of some day having a miniature orchid enclosure of my own since I don’t have a lot of space for larger specimens. This enclosure or “Orchidarium'' was eventually built in 2022 and the orchid collection grew.
I built the Orchidarium enclosure from an IKEA cabinet. Very little care is required for my miniatures since I have dialed in their growing conditions a bit more over the last year. The orchids I grow range from Bulbophyllum and Cattleya to Lepanthes and Masdevalia with a few odds and ends. I experiment with lighting, humidity and the relative height of the mounted orchid in proximity to the light and humidifier. It’s truly amazing the effect of moving an orchid just a few inches in either direction under a controlled environment. The change in conditions could be drastic. The current Orchidarium is about 5’ tall by 1.5’ wide and 1.5’ deep. I intend on building a much larger Orchidarium of my own design in years to come. It will boast a 7’ height and 6’ width with 2’ of depth.
